Summary: The transient three dimensional temperature distribution in a continuous drive friction welding process of two concentric cylindrical bars is investigated numerically. A finite difference technique is used to obtain the solution for the above problem within a desired accuracy. Considering the friction weld of engineering materials with the same thermophysical properties, the effects of external jet velocity of shielding inert gas and other friction welding parameters on the temperature distribution are discussed.
