The author discusses the following conjecture. Let \(G\) be a finite simple non-Abelian group of sufficiently large order. Then the table of its (irreducible complex) characters contains at least one-third zeros. The author claims (without proof) that the above conjecture is valid for \(\text{PSL}_2(q)\), \(q>3\), \(\text{PSL}_3(q)\) and \(\text{PSU}_3(q^2)\).
