A complete classification of the maximal elementary abelian 3-subgroups of the Monster is obtained. It turns out there are 17 conjugacy classes, one of groups of order \(3^8\), one of the groups of order \(3^6\), and the rest of groups of order \(3^7\). Of necessity the methods are highly technical, and depend on detailed calculations in various 3-local subgroups.
