Nikolai Nikolaevich Luzin (1883-1950) is best known as the founder (together with Egorov) of the famous Moscow school of the theory of functions of a real variable. The early history of the Moscow school has been greatly illuminated by the recent discovery that a close relationship had developed between Luzin and the philosopher, theologian and scientist Pavel Aleksandrovich Florensky (1882-1937). The paper under review describes this profound influence of Florensky on Luzin through their correspondence (1904-1919) which was published by \textit{S. S. Demidov}, \textit{A. N. Parshin} and \textit{S. M. Polovinkin} [Istor.-Mat. Issled. 31, 116-125 (1989; Zbl 0691.01011)].
