This paper deals with the multifractal decomposition of the Sierpiński carpet and is devoted to the corrigendum of the paper [\textit{D. Simpelaere}, Chaos Solitons Fractals 5, 2153--2170 (1995; Zbl 1080.37543)]. In this paper Theorem 2.3.2 is incorrect in general, more precisely, the inequality \(G_D( \beta_n-F (\beta))\geq 0\) still holds but the reverse inequality is not true in general. The author presents a new variant of the final version of the Theorem 2.3.2.
