The authors give a corrected version of Theorem 2 and Corollary 2 of [Acta Math. Hung. 70, 151-166 (1996; Zbl 0854.11043)]. It turns out that the method works for intervals of length \(\log^\theta N\) with a sufficiently large exponent \(\theta\), in contrast to \(\theta>1\) as was mistakenly stated.
