The author discusses the notion of homological dimension and other properties of module categories and their derivatives in terms of the structure of basic algebras. A composition operation is introduced on the set of algebras with a fixed number of tops. This operation preserves the finiteness of the homological dimension. The existence of a complete exceptional set in the bounded derived category of modules over the composition of ordered algebras is discussed.
