It is demonstrated that the spectral radius of a slanted periodic bi-infinite matrix \(\sigma_2(A)\) is the square root of the spectral radius of a finite matrix, \(\sigma_2(A)= (\rho(T))^{1/2}\). It is explained, how to obtain \(T\) from the matrix \(A\). A bi-infinite matrix \(A\) gives rise to a vector subdivision operator.
