Let \(K= \{ z : |z |<1\}\) be the unit disc in the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\), \(S\) its boundary and let \(f:S \to C\) be a function. The author considers the problem of extending \(f\) to \(K\) so that the continuation has the least deviation from the Sobolev subspace of analytic functions. The paper includes a mathematical model of the problem.
