The well-posedness for the initial value problem of the whole space Benjamin-Ono equation as well as the periodic case are studied. Global results are proven for \(L^2\) data using recent methods established by Kenig, Ponce, Vega and Bourgain for the KdV and the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.
