The authors note that the notion of ``proper upwinding'', often used in the current literature, is not a feature of the exact Riemann solution, and therefore cannot be a necessary feature of an approximate solution. For a Riemann problem, supersonic in the positive direction, the authors derive a sufficient criterion for upwinding in the positive direction.
