\textit{E. Zakhary} and \textit{C. B. G. McIntosh} [Gen. Relativ. Gravitation 30, 539-581, erratum 1619 (1998; Zbl 0876.53012)] produced a new complete set of Riemann tensor invariants. In the present note, by use of a new third order spinor identity, the author shows why the number of invariants is less than that previously determined. Other new spinor identities are exhibited, and the author gives a general overview of the problem.
