The paper concentrates on the interpretation and use of general Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems as (a) nonlinear variable gain controllers, (b) nonlinear time-varying autoregressive models with extra input (ARX), (c) nonlinear infinite impulse response (IIR) or finite impulse response (FIR) filters. Next, the author studies a certain class of TKS systems with simplified linear rule consequents along with their use as universal approximators.
