The \((n,f,k)\) system consists of \(n\) components ordered in a line or in a cycle. The system fails if and only if \(f\) arbitrary elements or \(k\) consecutive elements are failed. Using a Markov chain method the authors obtain formulas for system reliability in both, linear and circular, cases. A numerical illustration is included.
