This paper is an extract from the author's thesis, which has been reviewed in its entirety [``Zykliden'' (Erlangen 1996; Zbl 0878.14025)]. The paper describes, and in some cases gives proofs of the main results of the thesis: normal forms for the equations of a cyclide, real forms of a real cyclide, and a description of a moduli space. The most complete algebro-geometric treatment of cyclides remains \textit{Corrado Segre}'s famous paper: ``Étude des différentes surfaces du quatrième ordre a conique double ou cuspidale (générale ou décomposée) considérées commes des projections de l' intersection de deux variétés quadratiques de l'espace à quatre dimensions'', Math. Ann. 24, 313-444 (1884; JFM 16.0596.01). (The reference is incomplete in the paper under review).
