Input-output analysis is a technique developed by \textit{W. W. Leontief} [The structure of the American Economcy, 1919-1939, Oxford University Press, New York (1941)] to analyze some problems in management. Loosely speaking, this is a simple identification problem in terms of matrices. The present short paper shows how Lagrange multipliers can be easily introduced, and a (general purpose) band solution routine is given, via the finite element method.
