The author presents a simple algorithm for computing the Fourier coefficients of a periodic function \(f\). This method is based on linear spline interpolation of the sampled data of \(f\) and computation of the Fourier coefficients of this linear spline. The author has not observed that this is a special case of the known method of attenuation factors which was proposed by \textit{W. Quade} and \textit{L. Collatz} [Sitzungsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Phys.-Math. Kl. 1938, 383-429 (1938; Zbl 0021.39701)] and \textit{W. Gautschi} [Numer. Math. 18, 373-400 (1972; Zbl 0231.65101)].
