The main goal of the paper is to find some test functions, instead of the direct calculation of the spectrum, to detect simplest bifurcations in a one parameter Hamiltonian system: the emergence of (double) zero eigenvalue, and two double purely imaginary eigenvalues (Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation). The only linear situation is discussed, and these functions are pointed out that are more convenient from the numerical point of view.
