The paper uses Lyapunov's linearization technique to establish a necessary and sufficient condition for asymptotic stability of the general Takagi-Sugeno control system at the equilibrium point. The stability condition is then utilized for the design of general Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy control systems, with or without plant models, that are stable at least around the equilibrium point. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the design procedure.
