The idea of decentralized control is employed for flexibility and reduced complexity in supervisor synthesis. The problem of a compatible combination of decentralized and centralized control in the case when pure decentralized control becomes inadequate is considered. The concepts of a locally controllable pair and its candidate along with some deriving conditions are introduced. The fundamental theorems are presented and an analytical framework for mixed centralized/decentralized supervisory control systems is proposed based upon the theorems.
