Jacobi polynomials with varying parameters \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) depending on the degree are considered for large values of the degree. Strong asymptotics are established and extensions of the well-known Darboux formulae are derived. The proofs of the various asymptotic forms rely on the saddle point approximation of certain contour integrals.
