Recently \textit{N. J. Calkin} [Discrete Math. 131, 335-337 (1994; Zbl 0799.05005)] and \textit{M. Hirschhorn} [Discrete Math. 159, 273-278 (1996; Zbl 0858.05013)] had given closed expressions for the sum of certain powers of partial sums of binomial coefficients. In this note the author continues his investigations (see the review Zbl 0938.11009 above) and proves formulas for the sum of the same terms, but with alternating signs.
