The author gives a short overview on the properties of generally balanced designs together with a description of a rather efficient sweep-based algorithm for analysis of such experimental designs. A modification of the original sweep-based algorithm of Wilkinson is proposed. The new version allows to incorporate efficient checks for partial alialising and partial confounding. Ill-formulated models whose degrees of freedom cannot be determined can now be detected and respecified, if necessary, using pseudo-factors.
