For the statistical analysis of a road safety situation the author considers the multiple regression model \(Y(t)=\sum_{i=1}^{p}\beta_{i}X_{i}(t)+ \varepsilon(t),\;t=1,\ldots,n\), where \(Y(t)\) is a dependent variable for year \(t\) (number of road accidents), \(X_{i}(t)\) are independent variables for year \(t\) (total population of the country, number of vehicles on road, road length and dummy variables such as traffic rules), and \(\varepsilon(t)\sim N(0,\sigma^{2})\) is a stochastic term for each year \(t\). The analysis shows that the number of vehicles and low-order situations appear to have the greatest effect on the road accident fatalities in Bangladesh while other factors are apparently of little importance.
