The author shows how to represent a \(k\times m\) combinatorial array of order \(q^i\) in a cone of \(PG(n,q)\) (for a suitable \(n)\) with vertex a subspace of dimension \(i-1\). In this survey paper, all known constructions of \(PG(2,q^i)\) as cone representations are clearly explained and some conjectures are made.
