The authors investigate the equation \(d^*_AF_A +{1 \over 2} J_A = 0\) for a Yang-Mills potential \(A\) on a 4-dimensional manifold with a Riemannian (i.e., positive definite) metric. The main result is a representation of the current \(J_A\) that makes use of the asymptotic heat-kernel expansion of the Laplacian \(d^*_Ad_A\).
