The authors study families of six- and eighth-order hybrid methods in order to characterize those methods that have a phase lag order of six or eight and eight or ten, respectively. The ` ` phase lag order' ' concept was introduced by \textit{P. J. Van der Houwen} and \textit{B. P. Sommeijer} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 24, 595-617 (1987; Zbl 0624.65058)] to characterize numerical methods that are suitable for computing oscillating solutions.
