The authors introduce the concept of semi-orthogonality of two complex vectors. As a consequence, the class of semi-orthogonal projectors is defined which turns out to be a superclass of the class of orthogonal projectors. They study the properties of this new class and also give as an application the distribution of the quadratic form \(x^TAx\) in case \(A\) is a semi-orthogonal projector and \(x\) is an \(m\)-dimensional normal variate.
