The authors obtain a lower bound for the smallest modulus of an eigenvalue of the Hadamard product of an \(M\)-matrix and its inverse. The bound depends on the size of the matrix only, and is close to the one conjectured by \textit{M. Fiedler} and \textit{T. L. Markham} [ibid. 101, 1-8 (1988; Zbl 0648.15009)].
