The paper treats two fundamental problems: 1. Can we construct the response curve for a perfect system from a single or from a number of experimental curves? 2. Can we explain experimental curves by using imperfect bifurcation phenomena? By combining asymptotic laws and the stochastic theory of imperfection sensitivity, the authors present a systematic procedure to derive bifurcation equation. Numerical examples and experimental examples illustrate the theory.
