The authors propose an analytical approach to the interconversion between modulus and compliance functions of a linear viscoelastic material (a numerical method based on exponential series was presented in the first part of this paper [ibid., 1653-1675 (1999; Zbl 0942.74012)]. By using the slope of the source function on logarithmic scale, the method is found to substantially enhance the accuracy compared to existing approximate methods. The method is based on characteristic properties of narrow-band weight functions involved in the interrelationships between broad-band material functions. The approach can be applied to functions which are not necessarily viscoelastic functions. The authors review some existing approximate methods, and compare their performances with the new method. The results obtained are illustrated by experimental data for polymethyl methacrylate.
