The author studies the asymptotic decay of the Fourier transform of certain self-similar random measures constructed by \textit{M. Arbeiter} [Stochastics and Stochastics Rep. 39, No. 4, 195-212 (1992; Zbl 0762.60036)]. The result is then applied to construct statistically self-similar Salem sets.
