    The generalized plasticity model, as presented by \textit{J. Lubliner} [Int. J. Solids Struct. 28, No. 6, 769-778 (1991; Zbl 0749.73028)] and \textit{J. Lubliner}, \textit{R. L. Taylor} and \textit{F. Auricchio} [Int. J. Solids Struct. 30, No. 22, 3171-3184 (1993; Zbl 0791.73031)], is a generalization of classical rate-independent plasticity with a yield surface. This material model is able to describe the reloading transient during the reloading process of a specimen, which is shown in the asymptotic approach of the reloading curve to the initial load curve in the stress-strain diagram. In this paper the authors give an extension of the generalized plasticity model to finite plastic strain regimes, starting from the idea that ``time only orders the individual loading events in proper sequence'' (?). Classical plasticity and the model by \textit{F. Auricchio} and \textit{R. L. Taylor} [Int. J. Plast. 11, No. 1, 65-98 (1995; Zbl 0819.73018)] for linear kinematic and isotropic hardening rules are included as special cases.
