The authors design a Sugeno-type fuzzy controller (with multiple inputs and outputs) based upon suitably parameterized fuzzy input data. The analytical representation of this fuzzy controller is combined with a learning process provided by some modification of a random optimization method of \textit{J. Matyas} [Autom. Remote Control 26, 244-251 (1965; Zbl 0151.22802)]. A suitable training strategy can then be used to adapt the parameters to a real process, which need not be given via some model.
