The author considers a bounded two-dimensional domain partially filled with an incompressible irrotational fluid, the rest is filled with a gas at constant pressure. The behaviour of free fluid-gas interface is governed by Bernoulli law, the effects due to the surface tension are neglected. By using a comparison principle for sub- and supersolutions, the author establishes the existence of a unique global solution and investigates its regularity. The proofs are given for both stationary and nonstationary case.
