The articles of this volume are translations from the series ``Zap. Nauchn. Semin. POMI 234 (1996)'' and will be reviewed individually. For part 15/2 (same journal 94, No. 4 (1999) see Zbl 0924.00015. The preceding collection (14, 1994) has been reviewed (see Zbl 0842.00013). The papers included in this volume belong to differential and algebraic geometry. The papers on symplectic geometry and the application of geometric methods to physics are presented in the companion volume 15/2. The seminar consisted of three workshops: 1) Differential geometry (October 1-12, 1993); 2) Symplectic geometry, real algebraic geometry, and Hamiltonian systems (October 20 -- November 4, 1993); 3) Geometric methods in physics (November 12-27, 1993).
