The authors show how the well-known solution to the Teichmüller extremal problem can be used for obtaining a series of results à la distortion theorem both new and previously obtained by rather complicated methods by other authors [see, for example, \textit{A.~Yu.~Vasil'ev} and \textit{G.~N.~Kamyshova}, Sib. Math. J. 37, No.1, 53-61 (1996; Zbl 0874.30005)].
