This paper considers the following question: Are there Bernstein algebras with zero derivation algebras, and, if such algebras exist, what are their properties? The following theorem is proved: Let \(\omega\) be the weight function of the Bernstein algebra \(A\); if \(A\) has zero derivation algebra, then, \(\ker\omega\) is not nilpotent, that is, \(A\) is not a genetic algebra. Some other properties are established, and examples are given.
