According to the statistical interpretation of the wave function, a quantum measurement reduces an observable to an eigenfunction by a random jump. Such a jump cannot be described by the ordinary Schrödinger equation. The author studies a dissipative wave equation, Belavkin equation, which describes nondemolition continuous measurement in a quantum system. By applying a stochastic generalization of the WKB method, the author establishes the correctness of the Cauchy problem for the Belavkin equation and derives asymptotics of solutions to this equation.
