The authors provide some numerical experiments concerning the solution of two-dimensional diffraction problems by an integral equation method, where the unknown density is distributed on an auxiliary contour. Since the corresponding integrals are smoothing operators the problems are ill- posed. It is stated that for small numbers of unknowns and using some regularization methods the results for the direct and inverse problem are comparable to the boundary element approach.
