The stability of Ziegler's two-degrees-of-freedom cantilever system, that is geometrically imperfect, is analysed. It is assumed that the system is subjected to the impact load. Detailed analysis of the initial conditions valid immediately after impact is presented. The motion of the system after the impact is governed by a set of autonomous ordinary differential equations. This system is analysed thoroughly, numerically and analytically.
