In the authors' previous work [Phys. Fluids, A 3, No. 5, Part 1, 898-911 (1991; Zbl 0732.76001)], they suggested a new, more efficient method of solving numerically the equations governing two-dimensional turbulent flows, by using the concept of approximate inertial manifold as a means for a systematic elimination of high wave number components in turbulent solutions of Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper, they present the rigorous results underlying the previous, more physics oriented, presentation.
