Extremal varieties of Lie algebras are studied in the note under review. (Recall that a variety is extremal with respect to a given condition if it does not satisfy this condition but all its proper subvarieties do.) A variety of (Lie) algebras over a field is locally representable if every finitely generated algebra in the variety is embeddable in a finite dimensional algebra over some extension of the base field. The author has given a complete description of the varieties of Lie algebras over an infinite field that are extremal with respect to the condition of being locally representable.
