The author considers several cases where the assumption of the instantaneous achievement of a local thermodynamic equilibrium at the phase interface implies that the Stefan problem is insoluble. Therefore, the author proposes a hyperbolic diffusion system with short relaxation time instead of the insoluble asymptotic problem with degenerated Stefan condition.
