The paper is devoted to the presentation of the so-called reverse mathematics. The background and basic ideas of this research programme of H. Friedman and S. G. Simpson are discussed and main results are presented. The philosophical and methodological meanings of the results (especially with respect to Hilbert's programme) are considered.
