The paper is concerned with a hereditary model governed by the equation \(\dot u(t)+L_ a [g(u)]^ \bullet (t)=f(t)\), \(t>0\), \(u(0)=u_ 0\), where \(L_ a(\zeta)=\int^ t_ 0 a(t-\tau) \zeta (\tau)d \tau\) and \(u\) belongs to some Banach space. The main goal is to approximate the equation with a local differential equation that is easier to handle numerically. A numerical example is given to illustrate the method.
