Boundary value methods for the solution of linear initial value problems are created in such a form that the arising linear system has a tridiagonal block matrix. This matrix is investigated in detail for constant and variable stepsize for the three methods considered -- midpoint rule, Simpson method, and Adams method of order 3. Four numerical examples illustrate the theoretical results.
