The authors discuss the problem of determining a magnetic source from the fields produced. They point out that the problem is ill-posed, and suggest a least squares method, and an associated numerical algorithm to find a solution to the problem. Results, which arise out of data obtained for the motion of a marker swallowed by a volunteer, are given, and their biological significance is discussed.
