In flow over thermally insulated flat plates, cones and other bodies at the edge of the boundary layer a rise (or burst) in local stagnation temperature above the stagnation temperature of the outer flow has been detected. However, in the case of gas flow in the divergent section of a nozzle this effect was absent, and the dependence of the temperature on the velocity was quadratic. Observations of this kind have repeatedly been made in turbulent boundary layers. We detect similar effects in the laminar boundary layer. The investigation was carried out on the basis of a numerical solution of the complete system of Navier-Stokes equations for a viscous heat-conducting gas. A third-order-accurate difference scheme was employed.
