The description of the bed is based on the idea of a dual continuum. The fluidizing agent is simulated by an ideal incompressible fluid and the particle system by a Newtonian incompressible fluid with low effective viscosity. The velocity fields and phase pressure distributions are determined, together with the rate of ascent of the bubble. The fluid- phase flow regimes are investigated. The results of the mass transfer investigations are extended to bubbles of different sizes floating in fluidized beds.
